Extremely Rare “Spaced” Closepack

Attributed to the group of very early millefiori weights from an as yet unidentified glassworks (see “Classic Paperweights from Silesia/Bohemia” by Peter von Brackel, Chapter 3, Page 31). Presumed to have been made in the early 1840s in Silesia or possibly in the workshop of Dr. Wilhelm Fuss in Mageburg-Schoenebeck, Germany, there are currently only 5 known examples. This low-domed weight is not as tightly packed as those illustrated in the book (approx. 80 canes on clear incl. a couple of repeats) but there are a number of cane matches. The other canes contain combinations of various basic elements suchas rods (with and without a coloured overlay); tubes either filled with translucent coloured glass, squeezed together or bent into a “C” shape; and star shapes.
Polished, concave base with a couple of insignificant chips.
