Josephinenhütte: Silhouettes on Muslin
An excellent example of a paperweight from the Josephine Glassworks in Silesia. Almost a concentric with 19 canes in 2 rows around a centre cane, a few coloured filigree rods and additional partial canes, on a white muslin cushion. The silhouettes include a Prussian eagle and 2 red hares on a white background. A “millefiori pansy” - composed of 2 red and 3 green arrow canes - can be found in the outer row (cf. the example in “Classic Paperweights from Silesia/Bohemia” by Peter von Brackel, page 75, bottom left).
The basal rim is approx. 10 mm (3/8") wide with a polished centre to the base.
