Riedl Closepack

Riedl Closepack
A relatively large weight from the Riedl glassworks in Polaun (Bohemia) ca. 1870/80 featuring colourful millefiori canes with rods or single and concentric tubes in cog canes. The canes are graded from small around the perimeter to much larger near the complex cane in the centre. The majority of these weights have translucent dark-green grounds speckled with a few mica flakes; this one has so much mica it almost appears silver!
Flat, lightly polished base.
(For more information about Riedl paperweights and cane illustrations see Peter von Brackel’s book “Classic Paperweights from Silesia/Bohemia” and the article by John Simmonds “An Important Riedl Collection” in the 2010 PCA Bulletin).
