Rare Spoke Design
Spoke designs are relatively uncommon in post-classic weights. It was most likely made in one of the Thuringian glassworks, which tended to favour stronger colours such as orange and turquoise. The polychrome cushion forms an integral part of the design, which features orange/red & blue/red twists (plus one white/red “rogue” twist!) laid out as spokes from a slightly off-centre pale-caramel & blue “hub”. Between the spokes at the perimeter are blue/yellow 5-lobed star canes.
The dome has a rounder profile than most post-classic weights from this region, with a yellowish tint to the glass. The lightly-ground, flat base has a pontil scar in the centre.
