Royal Wedding Ed. 75 (1981)
This paperweight - designed by William Manson Snr. - was issued to celebrate the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981. Below the sulphide of the young couple are pink and blue lampwork flowers with green leaves; the stalks are tied with a pink bow. Encircling the design is a spaced garland of 15 blue/white/green/red complex millefiori canes. Signed in the centre of the cane at 6 o’clock: WM 81.
The weight has a circular top window, 5 side facets and a 16-point star-cut on the flat, polished base. Numbered at the edge of the base 15/75.
(On page 151 of his book “Paperweights from Great Britain”, John Simmonds describes the problems the artist encountered in making this weight).
