1953 Garlanded Clematis
A rare early lampwork flower from St Louis: a pale-blue double clematis with ribbed petals set around a white millefiori cane centre. The short curving stem bears 2 green leaves. Seen from the front, the bottom half of the stem is perfectly in place - on the back view, however, you can see that, in fact, the stem has split and moved to one side ! A garland of alternating canes completes the design.
Signed and dated in the cane at one o’clock in the main image SL1953. Slightly concave, polished base.
