1997 Grouper
Les Poissons / The Fishes series was introduced in 1996/97. The reddish-orange grouper, a native of the Caribbean, has such a large mouth it can swallow other fish half its size. The dark spots along the body act as camouflage to foil predators. The grouper is depicted over an opaque white ground dotted with sediment. The weight is finished with a flat top facet.
A blue/white SL 1997 signature/date cane is set in the white ground. Polished, concave base with a lightly-etched St Louis stamp.
