Onion-spire Inkwell (PY cane)

A inkwell with an onion-spire stopper - and signed with a PY cane (clearly visible in the second image). The complex millefiori canes in the base are closely-packed within a double garland. The inner ring has spaced canes; the outer ring is a continuous garland with 2 green/white cogs alternating with large composite canes. The canes are set on a thin colour ground of white powdered glass. The neck and the ground-glass stopper are made of white glass containing cane fragments and twists.
Fire-polished concave base with lightly ground out pontil. Glass has a strong greyish tint.
(For an inkwell with a similar shape, see the example illustrated on page 159 of Colin Mahoney’s book “Masterworks: The Paperweights of Paul Ysart” and for a similar signed example - with a slightly darker neck & stopper - see Page 4 of the PCC Newsletter No. 102, April 2010).
