Rare 1963 Dated Bouquet

During the first couple of years that Paul Ysart worked as training officer at Caithness, the company distributed ca. 5 or 6 of these dated one-off designs each year to its major outlets to find out whether there was a market for paperweights. (At that time Caithness did not include paperweights in its production range !) The artist made variations of this bouquet throughout his long career - here with 5 flowers and tall, narrow yellowish-green leaves encircled by a garland of alternating complex canes. The colour ground is a translucent pale pinkish-amber, which in a certain light appears to be a murky olive-green and - depending how the light falls on it - also brilliant ruby !
Inscribed on the flat, polished base - which shows signs of wear commensurate with its age: Caithness Glass 1963. (See final image !).
